There is no required number
The useful number of consultations depends on urgency, conflicts, lawyer availability, the complexity of the matter, and whether you understand the proposed representation. A firm profile does not establish fit.
Hold the questions constant
Ask each firm who would handle the work, what similar matters it currently accepts, how updates are provided, what decisions remain yours, and how fees and expenses are calculated. Consistent questions make answers easier to compare.
Verify before signing
Check the lawyer’s current license and public disciplinary information with the relevant state licensing authority. Read the entire representation agreement and ask for clarification of terms you do not understand.
Know what you are comparing
Office size, advertising visibility, and speed of response do not by themselves establish relevant experience or service quality. Focus on the actual lawyer, proposed scope, communication plan, and written financial terms.
